Gina is the founder and owner of Carolina Improv Company, overseeing all aspects of the company, including teaching adult classes, facilitating corporate training programs and directing/producing improv shows. Originally from Chicago, Gina earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communications from DePaul University. While in college she studied improvisational theatre at Chicago’s famed Second City Conservatory and Player’s Workshop of the Second City.
Gina relocated to the Myrtle Beach, SC in 2007 after more than a decade of experience in the entertainment, hospitality and tourism industries in Chicago. Before arriving to Myrtle Beach, Gina was the General Manager for the Navy Pier IMAX Theatre, a tourist attraction similar to Broadway at the Beach. A former television producer, she held marketing director positions with Spirit Cruises, Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding and Butterfields’ Auctioneers. Additionally, she worked in public relations for the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and City Colleges of Chicago.
When she discovered that improv entertainment and classes didn’t exist in Myrtle Beach she decided to start teaching improv herself to create an improv community to “play” with. One week prior to losing her job in the economic crash of 2008, she was fired from her job at IMAX (for not firing several awesome employees). She started teaching improv while searching for a new job … until she realized she had found one! In 2009, she took the money from the sale of her Chicago condo she was forced to sell and opened Carolina Improv’s first theater space (inside a MALL). She never expected all of this to turn into a business … and that’s what improv is all about!
In 2016, she started Pivot10 Results to focus on improv-based training for businesses in the area of sales, customer service, leadership, culture and ideation. While she has been doing this type of training since 2008, the word “improv” seemed to scare many companies. The mission of P10 is to help businesses shift from people problems to performance results. Improv is just one tool in the training tool box she uses to help improve company cultures. When she’s not training companies, teaching classes or performing on stage, Gina travels the world as a motivational speaker and is an approved speaker for Vistage Worldwide. She also produces and hosts two podcasts: The Pivotal Leader (featuring international CEOs) and Making The Team (discussing how to improve company cultures). In addition, she is a member of Vistage Worldwide, an official member of Forbes Business Council and a contributor to Forbes.com and TrainingMagazine.com.
Giving back to the community is important to Gina. Gina currently serves on the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce’s Diversity Council and also organizes an annual fundraiser, Eve Of The Eve, to raise money for charities in need. Previously she has served on the following boards and committees: Leadership Grand Strand Board of Regents, Small Business Council for the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, Arts Committee for the City of Myrtle Beach, Horry County Arts Council and Chicora Rotary.
In her free time, she goes home to Chicago as often as possible to spend time with her mom Tina. #TeamTina
